Nobody but her

She is draped in
a chiffon leheriya saree
and dons
big silver jhumkas
And makes small talk
with others who wait
with her.
A recorded voice
announces the arrival
of a CST-bound fast train.
In a span of 10 seconds
Her hair is up in a bun
neater than the
evening sun's outline
through a dark window.
The front of her saree
nicely gathered and
tucked in
tight as a promise,
revealing slip-on shoes
where you'd expect to see
short heels or t-straps.
Her backpack is now
in front of her,
and her pallu
beneath it, over her right shoulder
from behind.
A horn sounds,
the head of the train now visible
As it pulls over
at the platform
she is armed
for battle.
And you realise
She's holding up
half the city.
