Summer pt. II

They say they fricken hate you
That you're agitating and stinky
You make them sweat
You take away their appetite
You make them crop their hair short
You make the monsoon look more attractive
You make them bathe twice a day,
or more
They say you drain them of any energy
That you take away all motivation
That you make them
hole up inside the house
till an hour after the sun has set
That you limit their choice of clothes
But as soon as the mangoes and melons come into the picture
And bring with them
Ice cream, kokam sarbat, and neera,
Suddenly you're not so bad anymore.

You don't need their validation, Summer.
You have me.
You'll always have me.
