Making a house, a home

At least fifteen (15) books
must lie on a teapoy
off-centre in the living room,
where it has no value
for being a teapoy.

An old but functional laptop charger
must effortlessly sit atop
a glass shelf next to the sofa,
just infuriatingly out of reach
from the sofa.

Half-full notebooks
must work as paperweights
for bills, marksheets, wifi pamphlets
gathering dust
because you’re busy making yourself a home

Shoe prints on the
wall opposite the swing,
oil paint stains on the
washbasin tap,
an unwashed bra
on the bathroom rack,
dirty plates in the sink
from throughout the day.

Do I really need people?
