letters

why are letters always folded and made
into chits, and tucked
under beds, between the pages of a book,
or hidden, in pockets and in concealed wallet compartments,
to be read in secret,
when no one's looking?
lend them some respect -
stack them, file them, pin them up,
frame them, hug them, pile them up in a corner
of your desk.
read them aloud to yourself.
scribble your notes about them
on them.
stick them in scrap books.
treat them well,
them corporeal feelings.
